The Inuit thought they were the souls of the dead, Scandinavian folklore described them as the spirits of unmarried women and the japanese believed that a child conceived under the dancing rays would be fortunate in life. Modern science, however, has a different take on the aurora borealis.
But one thing I can tell you for sure is that seeing them dance in front of your eyes is a feeling that cannot be described!
This photo is from my 1st northern lights hunt in Iceland.
it was pretty crazy! was checking a photo I just took of the milky way and I see a small green glow on the top corner of the image! It was coming from behind the mountain, we took the car started driving and checking the map to find a way to go around it and we didn't wanna miss it! it was pretty awesome! (timelapse coming up later 🙂 )

And suddenly this happened after 5 hours wait :).
We got notified that the aurora kp was high that night so after finding the least cloudy area in the south, we went there and waited... Few disappointing hours later we were turning the car around to leave and there it is! The aurora appeared right in front of us, it was the strongest I got of the whole trip! (Timelapse coming soon)
